The two deck hatches on my 1979 24 Pantera needs to be replaced but I can't find anything that would fit (that won't cost an arm - and a leg...) :(

I dont have any good pics of what they look like but I hope you get an idea...

ANYONE that has two of these laying around or know where I can find them???

Less than a month ago there was a guy either here or on OSO that had a pair, and he sold them a few days before I saw the thread - They went cheap, like $40-60 if I remember.
I would have bought them just for spares if they hadn't already gone.
They were chromed - same as mine.
I'm assuming yours are painted/PC'd.

Yeah, I said the same thing.
Not many people looking for that kind of thing.
But, not many people own an old school Pantera either.
Love the life-line. I see yours is vinyl coated. I went with a bare SS cable.
Good luck in the search.
If I find some myself, I'll buy them and sell them to you at 3x my cost:sifone:

I know of a guy who had his completely refabricated for anolder Scarab. It would involve sending your old one's in to use as a pattern, etc. Let me see if I can track him down...SM

Have you called Pepe????

Thomas, here's the thread.
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/swap-shop/200864-old-school-parts.html

I sent him a PM that I know someone looking for a set of those, and if he didn't want the hassle of shipping over-seas that I'd buy them and handle the shipping.
I was just kidding about the 3x mark-up.

Worth a shot, right?
Just trying to help you out.
Thanks alot Bouy! Let me know if any progress!

Can yours be rebuilt?

I looked at yours in the pics. What's wrong that can't be fixed?
There are two corners missing on each hatch and they're missing hinges etc. They are in plastic and looks to have been pretty abused. For the moment the hatches are screwed in place with wood screws just to keep them from falling off...:(

That's what I'm thinking of doing if I cant find a set in descent shape, I'll have to take another look at them to see if it's possible to get the hinges and locks done to look original though.

I sent Pantera an email yesterday, we'll see what they have to offer. :)

I am sure that you could get new ones from Bomar or other hatch manufacturers. They will look different but they should fit no problem.

Yes but they won't look very good on this boat. :(

No, not at all.

This is close just not the "cross bracing". http://www.discountmarinesupplies.com/Bomar_Hatches-BOMAR_900_SERIES_MOLDED_HATCHES.html

I think you can get these in black also.

http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?no=98689F

Both can be got in most sizes.....

The hatches actually are slightly more narrow towards the bow.

Thomas, the guy sent me a message back and still has them.
Send me a PM of what you want to offer for them.

Depending on what kind of plastic they are made of, it might be possible to build the broken corners back up with epoxy, then grind/sand back down to the original shape. Then you'd have to re-finish with an appropriate paint. If it's a high-stress point of the hinge or tab though - I'm not sure it would hold up. Again, it depends on the plastic used in the hatch. Soft PE and PP not good; other types, maybe.

That was my first thought but the plastic is in very bad shape and falls apart even more every time I use the boat. Three out of four hinges are broken and gone and the locking mechanism as well. It would be too much work to get them in workgin order again bacause of the old plastic...

WOoooooo, back up there Jack...

The ones on my boat are stainless, not plastic. And that is what I see in the pictures - Identical to my boat.
And I'm pretty sure there is tempered glass, not plexi in them.
The ones you're going to get (I already talked to the guy and made the deal at your price) appear to be the same as mine - may need a little clean-up on hardware, but you're getting a great deal. For the price, if they aren't what you want, I'll keep them myself:sifone:

They sure look a LOT better than the plastic ones!!! The "new" ones are missing the hinges but by looking at the pic of yours it looks like a very easy fix!

Thank you so much Bouy for all your help! :cheers2:

Have you got the hatches yet?

Yeah, they got here today.
I just sent you a PM.
Shipping to Sweden holy PHUCK. $$$
I didn't even pull them out of the package aside from to pull the paperwork to get the guy selling them paid.
The package is almost 40 lbs. The shipping charges are about 9x what they cost.
I think you're getting an excellent deal on some old parts that aren't easy to find - but that shipping charge is the "bend-over". And, them being SS, I'm sure they will clean up nice. All-in-all investment, I think you're still doing good.
If you want me to pull them and inspect, I will, but I was hoping to just leave them packaged and forward them to you.
Check your PM's.
