Bob,

Talked to Schuble about a sledding weekend in NY this February. He said to check with you on the lay of the land.

My GF is taking me for my b-day weekend, so she booked the B&B that we are staying in. Per surfing www.OldForgeNY.com, we found Old Forge Sport Tours. I have a Rev600 reserved for me, and a Polaris IQ something or another for her.

I haven't been in a few years; but I know what I am doing on a big sled. She has never been, bust she can handle her own.

Are we set for the right place and right sleds for a good weekend? It looks like we are going sometime in early February.

(EvilTwin/Chris, if you read this, I dropped you an email through OSO on the same subject.)

Yes you will be good to go in Old Forge in Febuary, the trail system there is pretty well maintained daily, without knowing your girlfriend strength she will probably be ok but might be very sore in the bum and arms.

I am also planning a Sunday-Tuesday in Old Forge in early Feb. Old Forge is pretty much the only place in NY I have not rode other than the southern tier. I hear they do great work on their trails as far as grooming goes. It is the only place in NY where you need an additional permit to ride due to the town actually paying the groomer operators.

Get her a rev also. The ride is worth is and a 600 is not a large sled. You are a smaller guy so you will have a blast on a 600. I have ridden on my buddies rev and a day of riding that I know on my 900 I would be sore on I could ride for ever on that thing. If you plan to put some miles down you want to be comfortable. You are only limited by how much you squeeze the throttle so if you take it easy you can ride any sled you want.

Jon

My wife also has the 600SDI. More important for the new riders is clothing/equipment. Make sure she is warm and comfortable and she will have fun. I find myself willing to take a little cold or and irritating piece of clothing if Im having a good time.....the wife not so much. They need to be warm.
If you can get up there on a weekday the trails will be in much better condition. We usually try to head up Wed night and ride Thurs and Friday.
As far as the tours, the trails are marked very well. With a trail map you will be able to find your way around pretty easily. Consider a tour to get your wife acclimated to the sled and get a feel for the trails but you will also want some time on your own to explore. JMO
Your gonna have a blast whatever you do, Old forge has a great trail system, you will be hooked.

Hey Brian,
I just had this conversation with Gladhe8er over on OSO, without going through this again (I posted on wrong board/thread, oops) can you elaborate on what Package you reserved... link from conversation from earlier...

Thanks Pat

It looks like we are leaving on February 5th (my B-Day). I'll find out the B&B we are staying at. We did not book a package, but we got all of our info from www.oldforgeny.com

I talked to Schuble and he said Old Forge is perfect for the "weekend warriors" like ourselves.

I may try and get away for my birthday also, it's Wednesday 1-21-09, as I have Monday 19th (MLK Day) and tuesday for Inaugrauation Day off and really dont want to be anywhere near Washington DC until all that mess gets out of town....
I will check on the site you provided, appreciate it, Pat

Pat,

I don't blame you for getting out of town. I heard on the radio there is potentially going to be a "Gettysburg Theme" and may actually drive or helicopter the whole shebang up and down the damn corridor. Get me OUT of there for that.

This is the place M.S. booked for our stay.

This is the place where we reserved the sleds: (their website sucks)

There definitely is a "main st" going right through the heart of Old Forge with a bunch of restaurants and such. Old Forge is right next to the town of Inlet(I have ridden there) and there are bars/restaurants in the small town of Inlet and along the trails. I imagine Old Forge is the same way...I guess I will find out later this winter. Here are 2 pics of a hotspot along the trail in Inlet. It's caled the Ole Barn and on weekends there are always 100+ sleds there. Definitely a place to check out if you make the trip.

Too bad we are not going on the same weekend Pat. You'd have to find an 800 to keep up with me though! :D :D

Pete, if we see you up there, how cool would that be?

I've been hitting the gym pretty hard there toothpick.... :sifone:

Don't worry about him. We have built in insulation and up in the cold that is a good thing :D While he is cold and shivering you will be out riding.

The one thing I would suggest is to buy your own helmet. You want a comfortable one and they range from 100 bucks on up. Check with the rental place if they have plugs for heated sheilds (also a very nice thing to have).
