"Flashers" Causing Traffic Problems by Lake Norman

LAKE NORMAN, N.C. -- As the weather heats up, so does Lake Norman -- and we don't mean the water temperature.

"Oh yeah, a lot of boats with a lot of people on them. And, well, it causes trouble. Some of the things you see driving along the road out there, like the girls flashing, it definitely causes trouble," said Christopher Russell, who drives Interstate 77 through Lake Norman daily.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation believes antics from boaters on the lake near the interstate are contributing to the traffic issues on I-77 in the Lake Norman area.

"That has slowed traffic down quite a bit. I've actually seen some things, where people riding with me climb over to the other side of the truck to see what they're showing," admitted Russell. "I mean, if it's there you're going to look."

The DOT is now trying to prevent drivers from getting a good look. It installed buoys around the causeway with signs that state no boats are allowed to stop or dock between that point and the interstate.

The move is part of the DOT's effort to curb rubbernecking by taking away outside distractions, like flashers on a boat or minor accidents on the road. It has also installed signs for Accident Investigation Sites at certain ramps so drivers can move minor accidents away from high traffic areas.

Boobs to blame for traffic, changes on Lake Norman

Drivers passing through Lake Norman may have a quicker commute - at the expense of losing one of the city's tourist attractions.

Women who flash their breasts have congregated by the causeway over the lake for years, providing truck drivers with a welcomed distraction, according to Lake Norman News. But the distraction - coupled with rubberneckers vying for a view of the pretty scenery (sans boobs ) - causes traffic to increase on I-77 during the spring and summer.

We have a floating bridge on Lake Okanagan that is a no stopping zone. The police enforce it pretty heavily.

I was reading the comments on a Yahoo story about the Police..
a guy with the name of Ogopogo replied "Ogopogo doan like the Po Po !

someone else wrote back "That's OK....the Po Po doan like Ogopogo"

Made me laugh:sifone:

I guess the Native Americans used to carry goats and stuff to the cave for Ogopogo to eat instead of them.....

Knew about Ogopogo because my family vacationed on Lake Okanagan when I was a kid. We had a 22 Boston Whaler with twin 150 black max's on it. The hotel we stayed at has a small marina. I was about 13 and at Lake Okanagan when my Dad let me take the Whaler out by myself.

It wasn't bad, we used it mostly for fishing on the pacific. It handled the ocean rough stuff pretty good. At a dealer in Kelowna, town on Lake Okanagan, we bought a 17ft Sea Ray, that was used mostly skiing. My house growing up was on the beach, pacific ocean bay area. Kept the Sea Ray and Whaler on buoys in front of the house. I used both daily in the summer, even at mid 80's gas prices I was burning about $2k per month.

Boated everyday from about 9 to 10am till dark. Basically running non stop and mostly at WOT. The Sea Ray was tough because a 14 year old couldn't kill it. We had 400ft car ferries running near my house, so I often went out jumping the wakes. I'm sure it had a few stress cracks.

One time I was up by Seattle in one of my Excaliburs and decided to chase destroyers that were out doing some tests or manuevers. Anyway, when I went over the first wake at about 60, I had no idea they threw up a 10' wake.... Ahhhhhhhhhhh
