My new computer is a 64 bit Vista:(, it came with a free office 07trial. I paid a so called computer techie to transfer all my files including a data base program called ACT. He wanted to save me money by installing the latest version of MS office prior to 07. I wound up with a slow computer and could not get the data base to work with the older version of office:( The ACT people said it was because it is almost impossible to get the trial 07 version unistalled properly, so the two versions of office were fighting each other:boxing_smiley: I need Word, Excel, and the basic outlook (do not need contact mgmt) It seems like the price is about $400.00. I heard that there is an OEM version of what I need for about $180.00, but you can only get it through a dealer. I work at home so it is important to have things working but between the new computer, the new printer, which I had to replace because of Vista cuss, paying the first computer geek:conehead::, then paying the second one to undo and redo everything, then the new ACT program I am starting to go broke, so any savings would be very welcome  Is there any one that can help, Pleasssssssse

I installed the older version of office and haven't had any issues. My computer had trial 07 as well. I have a liscened copy of the older version but I can't help you if you want 07.

thank's for the offer, that is very nice. I think the main reason for my problem is because I run a data base program that pulls templates for quotes, faxes, letters and so forth from microsoft word. With the older version of office I could not open any of my old saved documents or create new ones within the ACT program. At this point I am fairly resigned to have to install 07, so if anyone know where I can get a deal on that it would be great.

Make sure you are not running both Google desktop search and MS desktop search on your computer, this combination can cause vista computers to run at IBM XT speeds.

After uninstalling the MS search our newest vista pc was back up to full speed

Chris and BDiggity thanks for you advice, after investigating more about the 64 bit it turns out I also have a 32 bit version of Outlook on the computer which everthing defaults to, I spoke to Microsoft sales support and the tech people at MicroCenter and
was assured the accedmic version of 07 that has word, power point, excel, and outlook will work on my computer, and they say the program is the same as the one the sell for $399.00. So I ordered it from Micro Center and with tax and shipping it came to just under $140.00 a lot better then $399. I knew I would get help here, thanks guys you're the best.
