GMAC working hard to rework bonds otherwise no floor plan for product = closed dealers..

but , we give billions to goldman sachs and morgan stanley which reported billions in losses over the past 2 days for there 4th qtr's....

looks like alot of men and women may be out of work...

Just for the sake of fairness.... this is one of a couple of planned shutdowns that they have during the year. They had scheduled 2 weeks. They are going to 4. They have done this alot. Jeep is famous for it. Especially when it used to take longer to retool.
Anyway... they get paid about 95% of normal wage. The real killer disguised in this situation is the loss of overtime that some people came to count on because it went for a long time. That's the real hidden "adjustment" in this. The periodic shutdowns are old hat.

At the end of the Korean War, Chrysler expanded the plant and converted it to the production of civilian vehicles. It began to scale down output in the 1990s, and has since eliminated its third shift.

That's not a surprize. I feel sorry for the people who are losing their jobs....but the durango could possibly be the worst vehicle ever built!!

Ok. That's why I wondered. I did hear some rumbling about the older plants that are harder to retool. We have a couple year old one here that can be retooled much easier.

I guess this is one of the ways that the ripple of the big 3 troubles is spread way beyond Michigan. Feel bad for the ones who are getting closings, rather than shutdowns.

The one thing I didn't understand on all this news, Toyota was building a plant in Mississippi to build trucks, then changed it to build Prius, then mothballed it. ??? I thought they couldn't build the Prius fast enough.

Prius has peaked, too much competiton, not enough enviros to buy them. And the truly informed enviros are now turning away because of the pollution associated with manufacturing and use that are not offset for years.
