Official... raise your post count thread!!

I played 36 or 37 rounds in 2023. Out of dozens of guys I played with, there was only one true cheater. And I only say that because he had the audacity to improve lies all over the course and then card scores low enough to carry a 2HC. If you are a say... 30 HC and you give yourself a stroke once in a while, I have no issue at all. You are still walking off the course with a 105. And you had fun. And you supported my pace of play. It's all good.
But don't carry a fake 2.

He is a treasury VP at a bank. I hope he is more honest at work.

We had an Local Attorney that used to join Us on a 9 Hole Course in Eureka, Illinois....He always cheated....We weren't even playing for $$.....

Looks like it's Raining everywhere but South Florida....

I don't think I ever had a Dawn Donut.

Neither the pastry nor the euphemism.

Art Hurand I believe was his name. Dawn Donuts was big in the 70’s and 80’s in Michigan. His family still has his big log cabin on Walloon. I helped a buddy that was the caretaker back in the 80’s. The basement was full of pinball machines.

My "friend zone" for putts is huge. If we are playing for fun and you hit a 40-foot curving putt and miss the hole by a hole, I'm giving it to you. Especially if it was pretty to watch.

Unless it's for a birdie or eagle. F that. Mark your ball and stand there and cool off while come up on the green. :)

There may have been one in Monroe in the 80s. I have this vague memory now. Something about driving around and everything was closed but Dawn Donuts. I may have been there. Or the parking lot. It snowed around Christmas back then, now that I think about it. Dawn Donuts in the snow, Monroe Michigan, 1983. Must have repressed the memory.

I think I am beginning to define cheating in casual, not for a HC, not to win a tournament, golf is when you sneak a stroke. If your group concedes the stroke, or knows what you did in front of God and everybody and you owned it. IE: Breakfast ball. We all know what you did. We'd rather watch you redeem yourself than have a crap hole. Who cares. We saw you touch the sand. You saw it. Make a mental note for next time and let's play.

Wait until we are not looking and kick your ball out, and say that was your lie? Nope.

The other form of cheating is the old "Ball in Pocket" That's where You pick up Your Ball after a few errant Shots and say "just give Me a 7" ( or 3 over Par) when

we're Playing a $1 a Hole......F*ck that..Play it out B*tch....

A few years back, I was coming up toi the 9th Hole carrying a 37.....I Shot a 13.....Dogleg Left....I played My Slice and Over Drove the Dogleg....No worries...I was still OK ...Then I Flew the Green...Still OK...

Flew it the opposite way....anyways...I made a 20 ft Putt for a 13:party:

Customer showed up and bought the car. He wrecked his own car leaving GR. Had to rent a car to come buy his wife the car. Hope he made it home in one peace.

Am I reading you had a 13 stroke hole? I did that once, I think. USGA had mercy and GHIN shaved it down to an 8 or something.
Last year this guy who may or may not be my boss, we will call him Chuck, who started the season a couple strokes a round better than me, started chipping over each green twice each direction. I think he is another guy who watched Tiger too much and thinks every approach is a flop shot. But he can't execute. So instead of chip two thirds the distance and run it to the hole, it becomes a tennis match. I gave him no advice about this. It's how I am going to beat him this year.

Also in 2024: if he plays ahead of my ball, which is becoming less possible, I'm going to hit at him. He never met a guy he wouldn't play in front of. Like, constantly setting up your shot in front of my ball, in my shot. First time he played my course he did it on a par 5 with a creek and I failed to mention that creek.
"Why didn't you warn me about the creek?"
"Maybe you were too far ahead to hear me." :biggrinjester:

It's winter here now "up north but not THAT north."
Guessing Rick has it a little worse and Bob much worse as the latitudes go.

You should be absolutely convinced you can't pull off a two-piece suit.

We still use salt on the roads. And they spray these silly little lines of brine. Which works in like a 4 degree temperature range.
Interesting fact: the salt on our roads comes from under Lake Erie, and there is a massive working salt mine right under Detroit.

"If anyone doesn't golf has been suffering through all this golf chat, thank you for your patience."

I just made that up, but I'm attributing it to Peter Alliss.

Locally they tried an Apple brine for a couple years. So if the roads were icy, they put that crap on the road and made it like butter on top of ice. Better for the cars, not worth a dam for traffic safety. Now they just run around dumping straight salt. At one point they made an attempt to mix sand with the salt.
