Hey im looking for some insight on what props I should buy. The boat came with a set of 26 bravo's that seem to run out well, no problem getting on plane (with four people in boat), and top out at around 68 at about 4600rpm with stock 500 EFI's and XR drives. I was going to buy a backup set of props and was wondering if I should just buy another set of props or if a set of 24's might be more efficient especially when loaded with people

The 26 degree props are best all around for the 500s or the 525s motors twins only, and this is 46' black thunder, top end should be about 70 to 75 mph. will your motors turn more than 4600 rpm and where are your drives set at, you will have to trim drives to 6 or 8 to get rpm up to 5000 to 5400 rpms

Jus how many hrs on the 500s. Mine has 400 hrs and had weak valve springs and 3 broke inter springs. Mine was down to 65. Havent ran this year, it rains every week end.. With 24s bravos props and 1.5 ratio you will more than likey hit the rev limiter I would guess. Hey guys would the 24s be easier on the XRs.

I've had bt 46' w/500 and 46' w/525 the 26 props are best all around with 1.5 ratio if not worried about speed, have tried tried 28 lab finish on 2002 46' bt w/500, gave us 2 mph top end 76 mph gps, but hurt getting up on plane a little bit. If you want to have spare in case you damage a prop I would stay with 26s, good luck with what ever you choose.

If you put on the 5 blades it will help with stern lift and it will also cut your drive life in half or less with that heavy of a boat.

I'm with Bobby, you should have your motors looked at if thats all the further you can pull the 26's.

Isn't that mostly in rough water though with the constant loading and unloading? The 5 blades have less vibrations than the 4's which could help only if you run in smooth water, and don't hammer it. Ah, whats the point if you can't hammer it though?!
I think the ultimate would be having the 4's and dropping the chines! :sifone:

thanks for the info. the boat only has 160 hours on it but it did sit for two or three years but was supposedly mantained by a marina. I was going to change the springs for that reason but ran out of time and they seem to run perfect. It is possible I just need more time running it as I have only had it in the water three times and that was just for a couple hours each and obviusly I wasnt trying to break it right of the bat.Does anyone have a set of 26's for xrs they would want to part with

Yes you are correct but the 5 blade slip #s are lower then a 4 blade and the added load to the vertical shaft and the lower gear set is detrimental to the drive and with XR's the upper set also. Now if you were running a Bmax the uppers are bullet proof.
