Your top 3 all-time favorite boats

Dude! Sweet!

Charter Member
Got thinking about this on my drive into work this morning (40 miles in L.A. traffic...) and I was wondering what everyone's top three all-time favorite boats are. They can be production boats, race boats, your own boat, wooden boat, unlimited hydroplanes, the USS Ronald Regan, whatever... totally subjective.

Go for it and post pictures!

Mine (today)...

1. Thuraya - 41 CUV with Lambo Power

2. Jesse James - 35 Conquest

3. Survivor 35' Pantera F2 boat

There's about 5 other boats that are all very close to my #1 - #3 but this morning that's where I'm at.

What you got?! :sifone:

Something about the Fountain INXS... It's one of the first canopy boats I ever saw and the lines on it are just awesome.

Any of the old Cig 20's, without the crazy big LipShip fairing.... The production #1 boat (cig 19) comes to mind, it's the Black one with Yellow interior.

The Don Q boat, Dirty Laundry, and a bunch of others also top my favorites from the good 'ol days.

1. The 'KAAMA' Scarab driven by Betty Cook.

2. The old piston engined unlimited hydro 'Atlas Van Lines'.

3. A 61' Buddy Davis.

Octopus looks like a sweet ride! :D

How fast was Rolling Thunder (that's RT right?) with the quads?

Rolling Thunder, with 5 people on board and half full fuel tanks, on it's first (and only) test run at Lake X ran 118mph. The existing Modified class Kilo record at that time was about 102. The owner immediately took the boat away before we could test the 4 other sets of props and try different engine heights (adjustable). The boat had an "appointment" to be painted prior to its first race......and, sadly, no further testing or setup work was ever done outside of actual racing. Remember this is when men were men and testing was for sissies, engineers, and crazy tunnel boat racers. Back then all the average racer ever did to increase speed was bolt a bigger carbureter on his inboards. It is my belief that the boat was potentially equal in top speed (130) to the Open Class Jesse James that we built two years later. The biggest shame was that the Mercury people never saw the footage of the boat beating the #1 Modified boat in the country that year (The Jesse James Chris Cat) in very rough water at Northport, Michigan....and as a result never realized the potential for Offshore use of their Champ motors.

As I have said on a number of occasions, this was my favorite project. I conceived it. George, Kenny and I designed and built the hull specifically for the application as it had never been done before and I used up a lot of coupons with Merc and others to make it happen, only to watch the idea get wasted because the owner and his team ( a talented family and successful in many ways) never understood the boat or its potential and had no tolerance for testing and development.
