opinions on Michael Vick

you attacked him by saying he was trolling, regardless of whether or not you agree. you're wrong plain and simple. whether or not you moderate this section or not, you have a responsibility to show some restraint.

What I have said over the years has no bearing on the functions that founders of this site have set forth, I have kept my opinions in private founders areas. whether it was his first or 100th post, calling someone a troll doesn't set or follow the precedent of what this site is about...

If he wasn't trolling then he probably should have waited until he could have thought of something a little less controversial for his self stated first post.

With that, I think Vick is a POS Thug and couldn't care less if he ends up sleeping in a cardboard box and eating out of a trash can. At every possible chance he chose to do things the wrong way. A perfectly good example of this is instead of humanely euthanizing his "loser" dogs he chose to torture them as if it were going to teach the other dogs to fight harder. He was embarrassed by the cowardliness of some of his dogs and took his anger out in the form of torture. Which is just sick in my mind.

Morally it is wrong on every level.

But the point I was trying to make was that animals get treated a lot worse than this sometimes in things like puppy mills and other situations

Apology almost accepted. It was the wrong first impression in almost every way I can think of. The references above are more correct to me.

Puppy mills are wrong also. There were a couple of people we met in KeyWesy who had two 5 year old little dogs with them they had just rescued from a mill.

The question is was the lady down the street trying to do her best because she loved cats but was off enough so couldn't differ between right and wrong? Or was she torturing them on purpose? You can be morally right and actually wrong.

For the most part, we love our best friends. Losing one, or hearing about/seeing someone else mistreat one, will get most of us going every time.

I really did not feel it was a first post as I have been on oso for a couple years under the same name and almost everyone here was from there and although I do not post all the time i do have over a hundred posts over there and I'm not gonna lie they are mostly off topic threads and sometimes controversial. I just read a yahoo article on this right before I posted this tread and I it was on my mind I really did not expect all the attention I figured two people would post and it would go off in the sunset.

I just think they are running this guy through the ringer for more than they ever have anyone else for the same crime. And the NFL is a whole story by itself Look at Ray Lewis he was right there when a friend of his shot and killed a person the night they won the super bowl and he never even got suspended or if he did it was short. There are others who where closely involved with murders or crazy dui's etc and they let them play and madd doesn't protest every game. Look at the hockey player who killed his friend drunk in his ferrari and he did some time and he plays hockey again. I think people are being harder on him for a crime against dogs than they are on all these other idiots for crimes against people.

I do think he is scum for doing this I just think that the way he is being treated is way unjust when compared to similar what I would call worse situations.

And for that matter the dog food company that had bad food and killed dogs probably because they where cutting costs or some other equally bad reason that probably could have been prevented the people who made the choices that led to that never had to do time in prison or lose everything they have I'm sure the protests outside the plant where the food was made are minimal.


As for the boat thing no I do not have a boat I was about 1 week away from buying one 4 years ago when I found out my now wife was pregnant for the first time we now have two younger kids and I just started a new business I could afford the boat if it just set in my driveway. but when I get one it will be exactly the one I want so I am on these sites trying to figure out what that is right now I'm stuck on the 39 cigs and hopefully I can pick one up this winter or early spring and get a deal that would have been unheard of a year ago.

as far as the topic goes - people make mistakes in life and I have yet to meet the perfect person (although I tell my wife she married one!).

the guy made a huge mistake in life and became (over)identified with the gangster thing, most likely due to his poor friend/associate choices.

nothing to defend in his horrendous actions, but I for one root for the underdog (no pun intended) and would like to see him make a comeback because he is a very entertaining ahtlete. even if he does make a successful football comeback, rest assured the peta peeps will haunt him for the rest of his life (justified or not) and that to me is more than enough punishment.

for those saying he should rot for the rest of his life, I can understand it.

but honestly, if the world never forgave you for your biggest mistake...is that fair or compassionate?

Again, regardless of the post number it doesnt matter. For all we know he could have been talking about it with a friend and decided to ask opinions accusing him of trolling is wrong, especially from a board founder. As many of the founders have said "what does post count matter?" this is a quote from another thread.

Maybe it is good for people to see that we have a fair process and that this is not a private club, and we don't use our fair forum to pro-actively lash out at people that folks may or may not be fond of.

Everyone is welcome. Everybody's opinion is valuable. New members should not be uncomfortable about joining and posting. And if people will be banned for acting like tools and contributing nothing, that has to happen here to get you banned here.

hmmm seems kind of hypocritical...way to make a new member feel welcome... maybe we should start a welcome trolls thread. Catmando was welcomed more warmly than db...I stand by my opinion the attack was unfair and unwarranted.

thirdly, questioning wheter or not he has a boat is wrong and doesnt coincide with the tone of this forum, as the aforementioned person above (cat) doesnt have one as do many other posters. I thought this site was going to be different seems the same ol same ol to me.

The difference is most of us own up to our mistakes and use actions to show we have learned and are sorry. If he were to do such a thing, in an honest and meaningful way, I suspect most people would start seeing him in a different light and eventually forgive him. But, because he is who he is, I doubt that day will come. It will always be they picked on me because of this or that. I fully believe that had he came out when this all first broke and owned up to what he had done, got therapy, did public service and what not he could have survived. But, he's a gangster - it's a death before dishonor thing to him.

because that is not the intent of this site, and the very people that wanted it that way are the ones driving people away. I also think a great deal about db came out, he titled the thread opinions which means he wanted to hear what others think...my final word is only final for me.
I am as opinionated as the next and very blunt, however in the spirit of the new site, I have refrained from bringing such things in open forum. Many of the people I have spoken to verbally and not on the comp, are saying the same thing. How is it by pointing out that someone wanted opinions about a subject I'm the judgmental one? This subject is very close to me and I live it daily as a responsible pit bull owner. I didn't come off blasting db about supporting vic, I tried to offer education into it and hopefully he will see a different view.
I say the same thing now as I said on oso about Fred at trick marine blasting people and talking of post counts. telling a new poster that they are trolling is wrong, plain and simple..then question whether he is a boater? Why not just give an opinion on the subject matter and leave it at that?why does the truth hurt people so much?

Still think Vic is completely an ass. My belief is men are put on this earth to protect those less strong and less fortunate. I don't care if it's a dog, a cat, someone down on their luck, a woman, a kid, etc. What if it was one of your kids pets?

If you use that strength to abuse someone, or something, less fortunate or less strong, you're not a man you're a piece of crap. That's what I think of Vic.

Sometime read about what Gino thinks of those who helped him, or some on here who put their lives in danger to save other boaters or in the service of this country.

I'm plenty relaxed, as for the kid, I dont know what you are referring to, if it was me saying he is back in the boardroom, that was just pointing something out, i havent nor will I post on his threads or make fun of him, hence the carry on.
I think I have been pretty clear about whom is not making people feel welcome, I only am forwarding what people have told me. As someone else pointed out to me, going over to oso and digging up all the old threads make everyone here look just as stupid as when speedwake got started. you guys just dont get it. and then when people do come here, they are jumped on... i myself started responding back to threads over there because they dont want to come here and listen to the same crybabies questioning things. This is my first thread and post on SO. Anyway I want to know what people actually think of the Michael Vick situation. I personally think he got hosed in the biggest way possible. I do not understand how he can be treated this way for his pleasure sport while something like a rodeo can go on and everyone thinks that is ok. The only reason it is a federal crime is because of gambling not the dogs but he got screwed. Don't get me wrong he needed an ego check just like a lot of other players in all major sports but damn they where hard on this guy. I want to know what you guys think. I hope he gets out and some team signs him and he kicks everyone around and then gets a big money deal and shows people whats up. I then hope when that happens that he tells eveyone who doubted him to FO.

I guess I just don't see this as a "slam"...and it was not done in moderator mode. In fact, the only slam I see is the resoponse to Fund's post.

Everyone's truth (or reality) is different - so be it.

I don't spend as much time here as some, but things seem pretty good and the SOS is a work in progress. Anything new or in building mode will have setbacks from time to time - it's the nature of the beast.

I don't give a rat's azz about Vick and regret even taking in the negativity and whining in this thread. Nobody is being held hostage...including me.
