Busines Owners working with govt, agencies

If it happens here in Florida, I will decline and hopefully my competition is dumb enough to do it. They will be out of business in six months. Then I won't have to discount to them! These high paying idiots need to cut their own salaries first!

The part about this that chaps my azz the most is that I see a sickening amount of wasted $$ in their day to day operations and know several people who work there on all different levels and I hear their storries. They waste more $ in a year than most people make in a lifetime and now they want someone else to pay for it.

Lets see them get 15% back from their union employees. For that matter, let's see them get 15 dollar co pays on health insurance.

15 points is pretty much what everyone is working on already. What will happen is the bottom feeders will take the work to keep the wolves away from the door. But they'll eventually lose and the bonding companies will end up owning his wife's parent's house.

I found out last week that our entire organization is taking 8 days per year "furlough" meaning that my salary was just reduced by 2 paid work days per quarter. :(

And I bring in 3+ million per year in revenue.

That sucks, but on the other hand, its hard to see the problem with eight more mandatory boating days:cheers2:

It's mindless actions like that which cause organizations that can afford it the least to lose their best people. I'm sure that there's plenty of people in any organization that wouldn't be missed for those days. And I could see doing it in a larger organization- but the day before I'd have my key people in to tell them to disregard it- it's not applicable to them.

If it were me, I'd take that as a sign that my talents would be more appreciated elsewhere.

If you work for someone else, you should never stop investigating alternative opportunities. Not even for a day. Your employer doesn't. As an employer, I can say that. You couldn't get one of my guys away from me. I treat them like they're the people that feed my family- because they do. If ever I have the feeling about any one of them contrary to that, their exit process begins.

I agree with you. I once nominated somebody who didn't even report to me for an award when I worked at the hospital. She was underappreciated.
I work for a different org now.... and now she DOES report to me. ;)
I stole her. :)

The particular org that I work for is in a unique situation compared to "for-profits" and the fact that they threw me in the barrel with everybody else was in the interest of fairness. I already pay my own salary in terms of increasing my annual goal by the amount of my salary. (I have always raised more than I was asked. I prefer it.)

I keep working on my professional certification, which will increase my earning potential.

Meanwhile I will suck it up and take the 8 days a year off. I need the time anyway... I still make a decent wage. But I agree that you always need to have an ear to the ground.

I know the feeling fund. My salary was essentially cut 10% this year. I just had my review. The owner of the company went on about what a great job I do, my productivity is through the roof, they couldn't do it without me - but they're broke. When I was hired I was guaranteed 10% of my salary each year in bonuses. This year I did not get a raise and they told me that I shouldn't expect any sort of bonuses because they're broke.

Every year someone will go in to X business, low ball and then go out of business. The guy running a legit business has to compete with these new guys every year until they are almost going out as well. (Sounds kind of like a Trick Marine business plan thread).

In our business, insert "outsourcing" such as companies like Tata, Accenture etc..... They're bidding for our business at rates of $14hr per resource with an average market rate of $50 hr doing it cheaply... :boxing_smiley: Before the corporation realizes, everything is so f'ed up then they come to us and refuse to pay market rates...

Problem with all this is the US government doesn't have plans, under Obama, to penalize US corporations for outsourcing. One thing he did was penalize those corporations who took tarp funds, not allowing them to hire foreign nationals who come to work here in the US LEGALLY and actually pay taxes and support our economy. In our industry there's a definite lack of talent and we need H-1B workers eventhough I'd love to hire all americans.

All corporations and government care about is the bottom line, regardless of quality and people... It's actually kinda sad....:(

But I can't give up... I come to work everyday and and keep fighting the good fight.
