Busines Owners working with govt, agencies

What a bunch of CRAP!!!
15%:icon_bs:

Why don't they stop wasting the money they already have, to cut down on spending.

I'm tempted to call and ask how many of the top floor employees have taken a 15% salary cut.

Unfortunately, they are mostly politicians and not business people. They have no idea what they are doing.....

Cut wages? Cut benefits? Require less documentation you actually paved the road? etc.....

Like this is something new???? LOL :leaving: For those not willing to take the contract reductions, I'd be happy to fill-in.

See attached letter I got early this year, this was a 20% hit with no and/if's/but's about it.....:cuss::icon_bs:

we also got a 15% reduction with Alcatel/Lucent.

folks, it's happening everywhere...

I might just craft up a little letter like this for myself, and carry it with me to the grocery store, the bar, restaurants, any place I spend money.
Hand it to the manager, and if they don't agree that I'm trying to tighten up my own budget, and help the economy by still spending my money with them, I'll move to the next location until I get someone to agree with my logic.:sifone:

I want one to give to the IRS and the State Tax Man.

Also sales tax when I buy something.....:sifone:

The problem is, in a lot of areas of the road building material industry 15% is the margin if not more.

We may be on to something here!!!

It sure screws the business owner, but that must be OK. After all, if the Gov't is doing it, it must be good for America, right?

I found out last week that our entire organization is taking 8 days per year "furlough" meaning that my salary was just reduced by 2 paid work days per quarter. :(

And I bring in 3+ million per year in revenue.

I was kind of guessing that was the case.
So you already dropped your pants to get in on the gov't contract, and now they want you to do it for cost or less.

I bet the acting administrators phone has been ringing off the hook today. They no doubt dreamed this up on the basis that that everyone in the industry is hungry and will smile and say thank you. There are no doubt going to be a few types of suppliers who are unanimously going to tell them to pi$$ up a rope and good luck finding the product you need.

I knew you shouldn't have changed your avatar...

This never would have happened to Homer......:sifone:

Oshkosh Truck, who builds for the government, has been calling suppliers in demanding a 15% reduction and making retroactive to Jan 1st

For us, that would be less than cost. We mark our bid up 15%. 10% being overhead and 5% being profit. I'd politely tell them we're not interested in doing business with them.....problem is that some dip chits will still do it:ack2:

I'm not surprised at those figures. I'm familiar with the construction game.

And yes, you're absolutely right, some yahoo that doesn't understand the numbers will gladly jump in and take the job, do it half azzed, and then in the end scratch his head wondering where all the money went to.

Every year someone will go in to X business, low ball and then go out of business. The guy running a legit business has to compete with these new guys every year until they are almost going out as well. (Sounds kind of like a Trick Marine business plan thread).
