Mercury 1200 / 1025 push button

But what does a tank of 89 cost vs a tank of race fuel?

Obviously you are in the know much more than I, however back when the 1200's came to market the reason said they didn't run the 1200's was due to fuel availability and not $$.

Yea- 93 may be 1/2 the price of race fuel but still would think most on the upper end of boating wouldn't care.

Hell, I don't even like putting fuel in my own vehicles- and smelling like it for the afternoon.

haha, how are you putting gas in your vehicles so you are smelling like it for the afternoon?

Every gas station I end up in has a puddle in front of the pump and gas/diesel on the pump handle. I bet I find two or three non-functioning auto-shutoffs a month.

Chris,

Carry some leather work gloves in your vehicle. I do this with my diesel truck, as diesels stinks bad and the smell takes forever to wear off. I mostly get fuel at truck stops and I see the majority of truckers wearing gloves when they are fueling up.

Not sure on the dual maps in one ecm, I was told by a top merc guy that there wasn't enough memory to hold two maps. Maybe this was an earlier version of the computer.
It is defineatly not a limp home mode. There aren't that many times when you need the extra power and RPM's of the 1200's. Mostly the first leg of poker runs. This way you don't have to pay for race fuel all the time. Only when you need.
Most people just run there tanks down to empty on the 89, at least on one side and then fill up with 110 and your ready to go to the poker run.Not really a problem at all and you save $1000-$1500 per fill up when you don't really need the 1200's.
Randy just put a set in before the shoot-out and you still have to unplug and plug in the ECM's. Takes less than a minute a side.
They are building some new boats with two tanks on each side. A small one for race fuel and a larger one for pump fuel.
Run hard to the first card stop, Change ECM's and Limp the rest of the poker run at 150 :-):cheers2:

the dual map ecu's are overseas, I don't know if it is the same style ecu that is here in the states or not, but its on an 850 race engine.

I heard you borrowed a set of ecu's that you really liked?:sifone: not bad for some ole cookin' motors...

So in something like a 44mti, what would the speed difference be between the 1200s and the 1025s? Would you need to change props?

It sounds like you are saying these 1075 1200 are the same as 850 with minor changes ? So the 850 motors are running on idle(until tuned up ) compared to the 750,s ?

Dont kick me off just for asking ,However it does seem that way from the several different threads on the 850 vs 750 .

For the majority of us who have been told that 750,s have an advantage by running high rpms, vs low rpm 850,s more torque ?

Is there a laymens answer to
this ?

Thank you .:)

Yes, and don't let the "750" name fool you, they are making 800+ HP.

The race 850 is limited to 6000 rpm vs 7600 for the '750'.
The 850 boats are also required to weigh more.

The boats end being the same speed through gear and prop rules, one just runs two seasons on one set of engines running pump gas, one runs two races on a set of engines running 110 octane.

I have heard it is about 15mph.:sifone:
In reguards to the differences between motors. Yes there are some minor differences between them. But it is mostly in the ECM, since it controls boost, timing and fuel.

Dual tunes from a single computer has been going on in the performance arena for a few years now, with GM vehicle products. Actually, since about 2001 or earlier.

Sterling has a simple switch to change their programs over. I forget what they use for an ECU, but it is not the MEFI4B.
Megasquirt is a do-it-yourself ECU that will do the same thing.
Merc uses that PCM555 thing. I know nothing about it other than we have made some swaps from the 555 to the 4B.
I guess for a production builder like Merc it is a simple way to go with a ECU changeout.

Heard that Mercury is offering the 1200hp package that if you push switch on the dash it allows the engine to detune to 1025hp.

No changing pulleys and you can go to poker run and run race gas and for other times just push the button and run 89 octane.

Sounds awesome and I can't believe there hasn't been more publicity on this.

You mean like this? Old new's................
P.S. It works really well for fuel and for Business:sifone:
