First off, by making a post with an opinion and asking what others opinions are, I don't consider that trolling and it is wrong for a moderator to come out and blast him like that.
secondly on the issue of Dog fighting. I can give you first hand experience as a pit bull owner and someone that goes to shelters and schools to educate people on the history of the dog fight.
Like horse racing, many years ago dog fighting was known as a gentleman's sport, wealthy land owners would test their dogs "gameness" it doesn't make it right (but most of them were slave owners as well, a diff thread) but the dogs were treated in as humane manner as possible, as they were prized animals, the same as a race horse or any prize stock. There were many different types of dogs that were used in fighting, and everyone was trying to breed the best dog for strength and aggressiveness. Keep in mind for early pits, they were bred to be animal aggressive, not human aggressive. Also keep in mind that until the bull dog came along, some of the most vicious dogs being fought were st bernards and shepards.
enter today's society and the Michael vicks of the world, he is no gentleman nor were his intentions with the dogs. it was merely a continuation of his "thug" persona that he wanted to portray. Yes it is illegal, and morally wrong, however a person such as himself that had elevated himself to a position of fame and in some peoples eyes a role model. He deserved in my opinion, everything he got punishment wise. It is sad that people view a crime to a pet/animal as much less than a human, as we all know that they have feelings and a soul, which is able to distinguish the difference between right and wrong. There are specific laws to protect dolphins and whales, as there should be for dogs as well.
I personally hope that Vick loses all of his wealth and just rots away, as I don't really care much for sports stars, after having many of them as clients, 9 out of 10 of them( that I have met..) are despicable humans. Regardless of what the crime was, vick committed a crime, I for one would never support a team that hired him, and as an advocate for pit bull rights, I would have no problem standing out front quietly with a sign and my 2 pit bulls protesting them.
