Yep! Never ever click on a link to access any thing like that. Some browers (IE7 does) will show a little padlock on either the address bar (and some times it is even in green for good/red for bad) or on the bottom right of your browser screen as well.

Those emails are almost always spoofs.....here's a new one:

One of my employees brought this in last week.
It was a letter from Cabela's VISA on letterhead (correct address, etc) with a return envelope to one of those "processing centers" stating that they had tried to send him his new card but it was returned as undeliverable. Would he please take the enclosed form, fill out all the info and mail it back in. It asked for name, address, SS #, etc.......he happened to notice the card they references had 5000 as the last 4 digits and since he regularly typed his card in for internet purchases knew that was not correct.

It's a snail mail scam!!!!!!!

Interesting update. It is obvious the original email was a scam. But I just went to the official PP site, which I assume is www.paypal.com and they say they are doing maintenance and I have been randomly picked for a security upgrade. They have my user name, ask for password, then want my full Visa card # and bank account #. Weird thing is the have the last 2 #'s of my bank account and the name of my bank but the last 2 #'s of my Visa card are wrong. Snopes.com says it's a scam, but they have info only PP should have, and it appears to be the real PP site.I backed away of course, but WTF is going on?Sounds like PP is a bunch of crooks,or are allowing crooks to infiltrate their site:(

sounds like they dropped a cookie to indirect you to another site, clear your temp internet files, and cookies, and the same for your history, then look at an invoice from paypal to get the actual site url, you should be fine then.

Another way is to access you paypal account through E bay. Anything authentic from Paypal should show up in your E bay message center.

Thanks, offshore, did all that. Then logged into PP,they asked me to login, but this time my password would not work,so I clicked on lost password, promptly got an email to click on service@paypal.com,the same address that started all this.F#$k PP,don't need them. Thanks for all the help from an internet challenged guy.

Exactly. Never, never, never logon to your PayPal account directly from an email. Open a new window and logon.

This goes for just about any email that asks you to logon and check something.

they are scams do not do it they never send e-mails read there policy @ the pay pal site you can forward it to paypal and they can find the sorce and stop it.
